1966 Volkswagen Bus in Lansing, IL

1966 Volkswagen Bus

A true no-shit one-owner little old lady bus! It was always garaged so the paint is really strong and the interior has stayed dry.It was originally bought from Eglin Motors in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. The owners were stationed at Eglin Air Force Base until 1968. They then got transferred to Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, AK. They actually pulled out the middle seat and sent ahead it via military relocation shipping along with their housewares and loaded up the family to drive all way from Florida to Alaska! What a fun family vacation! Luckily the middle seat found its way back into the bus when they arrived in Alaska. In 1972, they relocated to Port Orchard, WA, where we live. It's unclear if dad was out of the military at that point or if he worked at one of the many Naval bases in the area. The Bus had only clocked 18,000 miles at this point in 1972. It now has just over 109K original miles. We were told that it only left the peninsula 3-4 times its entire life! We basically live on an island as you have to take the Tacoma Narrows Bridge (Galloping Gertie) or a ferry to get to the "mainland." It's a bit of a trek for some people it seems. There are a few back roads that take you out of the area via. HWY 101, but that's basically it. The times that we "spotted" this bus over the years were always at garage sales, thrift shops, the library downtown, or out front of the old-time repair shop for its annual 200mi. oil change! It disappeared a few years ago and no one knew what happened to it. As it turns out the original owner (the wife, in her 80s) who was always seen behind the wheel, had fallen ill with Dementia and was no longer able to drive.outriggers are dented from jacking; -drivers rocker is perforated inside/out but it?s all below the floor-everything works? everything. Including the clock-Numbers matching 1500cc engine, correct and original to this bus! large dia. 66 only 6V generator and original governor, all original paint beautiful tins and aircleaner. Nothing has been messed with other than a newer replacement Carburetor.-109K original miles-it?s been continuously driven its entire life bat always just around town etc.-upper nose has been repainted, minor windshield opening rust repair, new seals. Nose was damaged from a spare tire mount, no extra holes it was the type that used emblem holes. Also welded up the antenna hole and installed the original radio plate that came with the bus.
